This is an ultra-budget chipset used on some phones like the Cherry Aqua S9 and Realme Narzo 50i
According to a report by Kryptowire, a security vulnerability found on the UNISOC SC9863A chipset has made phones equipped with it more vulnerable to hackers and can easily be exploited. The exploit allows the attackers to fully control your device and steal personal and sensitive information.
There are six ways the exploit can be done. It is through call data, system logs, contacts, private information, text messages, and through remote access. The latter allows attackers to completely wipe out your phone of data as if a user has performed a factory reset.
The vulnerability, according to Kryptowire, has been around since December 2021. Following this discovery, the research firm has notified several OEMs and even UNISOC, but UNISOC is yet to respond.
Some phones that have this chip include the Realme Narzo 50i, Cherry Mobile Aqua S9, older-gen Samsung Galaxy A03 phones, and some Nokia budget phones. It is a 28nm chipset with an octa-core CPU, featuring eight Cortex A-55 cores and PowerVR GE8322 GPU.
We hope UNISOC responds fast and sends a security patch. For now, keep your eyes peeled and we’ll update you if anything happens.
