33W isn’t something you see on a budget phone everyday.
Tecno has announced the Spark 8 Pro, a budget phone that succeeds the Spark 7 Pro and is Tecno’s counterpart to the Infinix Hot series. In case you weren’t aware, both Tecno and Infinix are owned by the same parent company, Transsion.
Anyway, the Spark 8 Pro comes with a 6.8in. FHD+ IPS LCD panel with a dot notch that houses the 8mp front camera with dual-LED flash. The phone lost the 90Hz high refresh rate from the Spark 7 Pro and we aren’t exactly sure why Tecno made such a decision.
This lower refresh rate has been sacrificed for a better processor. The Spark 7 Pro came with a Helio G80 processor while the Spark 8 Pro comes with a Helio G85 processor that’s paired with 4 or 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Don’t fret if you have the Spark 7 Pro, as the G85 is just a slightly higher clocked version of the G80 and there’s little difference between the two.
There’s three cameras at the back. The main sensor is 48mp, the second one is a 2mp depth sensor and the third is probably so much filler that Tecno decided to ignore it. As mentioned earlier, there’s an 8mp front camera with dual-LED flash to help blind brighten your selfies.
Unlike the Tecno Pova 5G, the Spark 8 Pro is stuck with HiOS 7.6 based on Android 11. While HiOS 8.0 might have fixed some bugs and improved stability, the features of the two are nearly the same so nothing to worry about much here other than security patches.
The Spark 8 Pro has a 5000mAh battery that was improved from its predecessor thanks to the inclusion of the 33W fast charging tech. This is the only reason why you should upgrade, as the Tecno Spark 7 Pro is stuck with the slow and standard 10W charging.
The fingerprint sensor is now located at the side instead of the back. The USB port has been thankfully upgraded from the outdated micro-USB to USB-C. It also has OTG and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Though, the phone might not have dual-band Wi-Fi as it isn’t listed in Tecno’s website.
The phone’s now available in India and Bangladesh. In India, prices start at INR 10,599 (~Php 7.3K) for the 4/64 version. The 6/64 model is available in Bangladesh at Bangladeshi Taka 16,990 (~Php 10.2K). There are four colours: Interstellar Black, Turquoise Cyan, Komodo Island, and Winsor Violet. Although only the first two are listed and seen on Tecno’s website.
We’re waiting for Philippine release as well and when that happens, we’ll update you.
