Still no Google Play services. Starts at EUR499
The Huawei Nova 9 is a phone first released in China. It was essentially like a “lite” variant of the Huawei P50 series. A week ago, the phone was released for the European market, albeit with no GMS but uses EMUI 12. Sadly, the Nova 9 Pro remains exclusive for Chinese users.
While Huawei was barred from trading with US companies, the phone still uses the SD778G processor, although it has been modified to just use 4G LTE services since, in accordance with the blacklist, Huawei can’t use 5G services. This chipset is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.
For the display, the phone has an OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate. In terms of battery power, the phone has a moderately sized 4300mAh battery coupled with 66W fast charging, which is similar to that of the Xiaomi CIVI.
For cameras, the rear camera design has a familiar look, although that’s where the similarities end between the P50 and the Nova 9 since both use a different camera array. The Nova 9 uses the typical midranger cameras: a 50MP main camera with an 8mp ultrawide and a 2mp depth sensor. Nothing special about the hardware except that they are capable of 4K video. For selfies, it has a 32mp camera that can record 4K video.
The phone lacks a headphone jack. It supports NFC and reverse charging and includes an in-display optical fingerprint scanner for biometrics. It comes in four colours: Starry Blue, Black, Green and Violet. As mentioned, it’s available in Europe for a price of EUR499 (~Php 29.4K). This has an added warranty perk as Huawei is offering a FREE screen replacement for one year, in case the screen somehow cracks.
