The slightly nerfed version of the Galaxy A52s, the M52 5G, is now available in India. The phone is a luxury midranger, exactly a close relative of the Galaxy A52s, but with a cheaper price tag and some compensations set.
First, the phone uses a 6.7in. FHD+ SAMOLED+ panel with 120Hz refresh rate. This SAMOLED panel is basically an enhanced version of the regular SAMOLED, with better colour reproduction, contrast, sharpness and brightness.
For the processor, the phone uses a 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G which means it retains support for 5G, this is also the same processor that the Galaxy A52s uses. It supports an expandable storage of up to 1TB via MicroSD, though it’s a hybrid slot. The phone also boots with Android 11 with OneUI 3.1 on top.
For the camera, the phone comes with a triple camera setup instead of the quadruple camera setup that the Galaxy A52s came with. It retained the 64mp main, 12mp ultrawide and 5mp macro camera. What’s not seen here? That’s right, the gimmicky depth sensor. That sensor doesn’t do anything much. Brands might defend it for “Bokeh” effects but phones that lack it can replicate what the useless 2mp depth sensor can do, sometimes better.
The phone also uses a 32mp selfie sensor, although, there’s no stabilisation included or activated. No EIS nor OIS available here. The main camera also doesn’t have OIS, unlike the more expensive Galaxy A52s 5G.
For the battery, the phone has a typically large 5000mAh battery with the same 25W fast charging tech as the Galaxy A52s 5G. Though this isn’t slow, it’s not fast compared to its competitors, which sometimes even come with 65W fast charging.
The phone doesn’t come with a headphone jack. Gotta embrace hypocrisy, we guess. The phone does have support for NFC, USB-C and Bluetooth 5.0. In addition, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi, both in 5GHz and 2.4GHz.
The phone launched quietly in Poland prior to the India launch. In Poland, the price of the phone starts at PLN 1,749 (~Php 23K) for the 6/128 configuration. There’s also an 8/128 variant if users prefer higher RAM. Though, prices are to be announced as sales would start on 3rd October.
