Vivo at second place, Xiaomi is at third place, Oppo at fourth and Samsung at fifth (not counting “Others”)
The IDC has published its quarterly report for the smartphone market in the Philippines, and it’s quite an interesting one. So far, aggressive marketing wins the race once again.
According to the IDC there are five major manufacturers who shared a nice slice of the pie. Interestingly the “Others” part has a higher share than Xiaomi Samsung and Oppo, and is only third from the list if they are counted. This “others” list may include local manufacturer Cherry Mobile as well as Huawei, which is no longer included in the list of “independent” smartphone manufacturers.
Anyhow, Realme is at the top of the list once again, having a 24.4% market share, Vivo is at second place at 18.2% and Xiaomi is at third with 14% market share while Samsung and Oppo have 13% and 12.5% market share respectively. The reason for Realme to be so high up in this list may have been contributed from their budget C line, in particular the C11 2021 which is their best-selling unit. Budget phones helped these manufacturers gain a significant share in the IDC report.
Xiaomi is steadily growing for the Philippine market as it focuses on an “online-only” market. As the pandemic continues, less people are going out and therefore have relied on e-commerce stores like Shopee and Lazada to purchase their next phone, and that’s where Xiaomi is really good at. With outstanding specs at insanely valuable price, it’s no surprise to see Xiaomi slowly rising to the top.
IDC has also noted that due to new COVID-19 variants, manufacturers constantly make price drops and release budget phones in order to compete and get a larger slice of that sweet sweet pie.
